Go to her web page a see her remarks and photos from the speech she gave at UC Berkeley recently. It was the protesters that were trying to limit her free speech rights! posted by: therealspartacus007 (reply) post date: 09.30.04 (1:08 pm) Reply to: Stephen89702 I'm afraid I don't see how the protestors were doing that. Malkin thinks its a grand idea to throw people into prisons because someone of their same race might be a spy. That doesn't scare you? posted by: Stephen89702 (reply) post date: 09.30.04 (2:07 pm) Reply to: therealspartacus007 Did you actually read her booK " In Defense of Internment: The Case for Racial Profiling in World War II and the War on Terror," or are you just relying on the New York Times book review? I suppose it's all a matter of preception. An example: Bill O'Reilly has a viewer mail section on at the end of each of his programs. Viewer reaction to the same show segment can be at both extremes of the political spectrum - again on the same segment! By the way, I'm no fan of Mr. O'Reilly (see my post). I'm not saying that what happened to the Japanese citizens in WW II was right! Far from it - I believe the whole mess was a hysterical reaction brought on by the fever of war. But back to Ms Melkin ... I found her treatment of the subject, as a person of Japanese ancestry, to be an interesting view of that particular situation. I neither agree or disagree with her conclusions. posted by: therealspartacus007 (reply) post date: 09.30.04 (5:27 pm) Reply to: Stephen89702 I'm relying on not only external reviews, but on her own writings on her blog about her book and her defenses of her critics. I wrote a blog about her book a while back. Malkin is not of Japanese ancestry. Her parents were from Thailand. posted by: Stephen89702 (reply) post date: 09.30.04 (7:07 pm) Reply to: therealspartacus007 Sorry! I knew that Michelle was not Japanese! I had Japanese people on my mind and proceeded to make a stupid error. Oh well ... thanks for the correction. Like I said before, I make no judgement on what Ms Malkin wrote. I found her views to be interesting to me personally. From the liberal left comments and reviews I've seen, they don't much appreciate Ms Malkin's right to free speech. I'm reminded of the old saying that goes something like this: "I may not agree with what you have to say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it." And I won't call you ugly names either! |
