Michael Schiavo and Prayer
03.30.05 (7:43 am)   [edit]
On the "Miami Herald" web page this morning I found a letter to the editor that made an amazing conclusion.

The writer says "...Not one [who claimed to be a Christian] prayed for Michael Schaivo -- the one person who has control of this situation -- to have a change of heart."

I am left to wonder if the person who wrote this took a poll of everyone who prays. If so, he or she missed calling me, and several of the people I know, who do pray for Mr. Schiavo.

When people who have no understanding of Christians or Christianity make blanket statements like the quote above, they betray their own lack of knowledge. The main stream media has done a superb job of demonizing people with any Christian religious belief, so it's no surprise to me when I see comments like the quote above.

I was raised Orthodox Presbterian. Many of my relatives are Missouri Synod Lutheran, more are Methodist. My Grandmother attend the Christian Church in Bartley, Nebraska. I feel that I have some understand of christianity, but cannot fathom the hatred displayed toward Mr. Schiavo by the "religious" community. Perhaps you and your friends are above what I have seen. I wish a few more could rise above it.

To tell the truth, I know next to nothing about most "organized" religions. My faith beliefs come from the Bible and my life experiences.

As for Mr. Schiavo, I cannot fathom why he couldn't just "walk away" and let Terri's parents and siblings take over her care & treatment. So yes, I and others did pray for God to touch Mr. Schiavo's heart, and to protect him from the evil that was around him (all the threats made against him and his family).

I don't believe the majority of the "religious community" hated Mr. Schiavo. I think most of them were puzzled and perplexed by his steadfast determination to end Terri's life - especially since he had already moved on to a new life with his common-law wife and their two children. There seems to be some dynamic in this case that lies under the surface facts. If I could figure it out I could probably get rich writing a book!

Thanks for your comment and God Bless.
